What's new: Hector's Bike Shop in Fontana
What it offers: A range of bicycles for recreation and racing, as well as bicycle parts, accessories and repair.
The business is the culmination of a lifelong dream and several years spent working at bicycle shops throughout the two-county area, said owner Hector Cabrera.
"My dream was to get to downtown Fontana because they didn't have any bike shops," he said.
The business opened in December in Rialto but moved to Fontana a few months later to escape competition from a number of other bicycle shops, Cabrera said.
The move is already paying off with brisk business, he said.
The 2,200-square-foot space is filled with everything from mountain bikes and beach cruisers to low riders and professional racing bikes.
Cabrera, a former bicycle racer, says bikes are in his blood.
"When you really like bikes, you feel it in your heart," he said.
Cabrera aims to share his love of the sport with customers by offering lifetime tuneups and discounted accessories with all new bicycle purchases, he said.
He runs the business with the help of his wife, Elsa, and their five children.
When it's open: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
When it opened: May 14
Where it is: 8586 Sierra Ave., Fontana
About the owner: Cabrera said he fell in love with bikes at the age of 8. He began watching bicycle racing as a child, and he eventually began racing, he said.
While still in school, he found a part-time job repairing bicycles.
Over the years, he continued his love affair with bicycles, racing and repairing them for a number of years.
"All my life I have worked on bikes." His passion took him to jobs throughout the Southland, at which he gained experience working on many different types of bikes, he said.
He hopes to eventually move to a bigger shop in Fontana. He lives in Rialto with his family.
